Dani Grant

Dani Grant is the co-founder and former chief executive of Jam, the developer-tools company she built with Mohd Irtefa to help software teams capture, diagnose, and fix bugs. Her career combines internet infrastructure, venture investing, and firsthand experience building a startup through repeated product experiments.

Grant spent three and a half years at Cloudflare working on products including the 1.1.1.1 DNS resolver, Spectrum, DNSSEC, and the F-root DNS partnership. In 2018, she joined Union Square Ventures as an analyst, gaining an investor’s perspective on emerging technology and early-stage companies.

She and Irtefa, a former Cloudflare colleague, founded Jam in 2020 after considering 141 startup ideas. They ultimately chose a problem they understood personally: engineers receiving bug reports without the information needed to reproduce them. The company initially explored collaborative website editing and endured seven unsuccessful launches before finding traction with developer-ready bug reports: browser-based recordings that capture console logs, network requests, and other diagnostic context automatically.

Jam raised an $8.9 million Series A in 2024, led by GGV Capital U.S. By early 2025, Grant reported that Jam had reached 170,000 users and generated more than six million bug reports. She subsequently stepped away as chief executive.

• Debugging starts with better evidence. Grant treats software defects as communication failures as well as technical problems: capturing diagnostic context immediately reduces back-and-forth among engineers, designers, product managers, and support teams. Jam’s GraphQL debugging tools expose errors concealed behind successful HTTP responses and identify individual mutations.

• AI should expand who can build software. Grant argues that AI-assisted development will widen participation and increase demand for software, while shifting engineers toward product judgment, agent supervision, and debugging unpredictable systems. Her case for AI-assisted software development connects that forecast to Jevons paradox: lower production costs can increase overall demand.

• Small scope, high quality. Grant favors tightly scoped releases, early customer feedback, documentation, testing, and small teams with genuine ownership. For productivity tools, an unreliable first encounter undermines the product’s central promise.

• Fundraising sells future possibility. Jam raised initial financing before its product was finished and before Irtefa had left his job. Grant advises founders to cultivate investor relationships early, make outreach compelling enough to earn a response, keep pitch meetings conversational, and explain how a narrow initial feature becomes a substantial company—a perspective sharpened by both her seed-fundraising guidance and her AI Engineer founder workshop.
